USA Softball Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP)

Dear USA Softball member,

We take protecting our members both on and off the field seriously and are dedicated to building and maintaining a supportive and nurturing environment in which our participants may flourish and grow. We are the leaders in the sport of softball and as such our commitment to athlete safety is unmatched. Simply put – USA Softball will not tolerate ANY abuse whether it is emotional, physical, mental and sexual.

Since the introduction of the U.S. Center for SafeSport, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has developed a Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP) and USA Softball has further developed our own MAAPP policy designed to protect our members from various types of misconduct and abuse.

SAFE SPORT TRAINING

As a result of the misconduct and actions of individuals toward youth athletes in a number of sports, USA Softball is requiring
all state level softball boards of directors and trainers, ACE certified coaches, and national tournament officials to
complete Safe Sport training. The training is intended to inform these individuals of the signs of misconduct and abuse
and the actions to be taken. Safe Sport provides 24-hour hotline access, training materials, investigative services and confidentiality.

STATE LEGISLATURE PASSES CONCUSSION PROTOCOL BILL

House Bill 487 in the 2017 Legislative Session extended concussion protocol procedures to any entity that organizes
or sponsors an organized youth athletic activity. USA Softball of Montana will need to formalize policies and procedures to inform
coaches, officials, youth athletes and parents or guardians of the nature and risk of brain injuries. A form, documenting that
educational materials have been provided to and viewed by each youth athlete and parent/guardian, is needed.

All coaches and officials must complete concussion training once each year. USA Softball of Montana hopes to facilitate
this process through RegisterUSASoftball.com, the web-site for youth softball registration run by USA Softball,
and the state web-site with a link to the CDC protocols for concussions.

If you want your tournament listed in either the JO Fastpitch or Adult Softball sections, you must contact your
District commisioner and request the tournament be sanctioned. The District Commisioner must then contact the website Administrator
and verifiy that your tournament has been sactioned before it can be posted on the website.

Altered Bats

Keeping altered bats out of the game is important. If you are buying or trading for used bats please ensure that the bat is unaltered. Knowingly using altered bats comes with strict penalties for players and teams. Altered bats can be conficated. From the ASA Code:

(d) Competing with a team that is discovered to have within its possession or control an altered bat - two (2) year minimum.

(e) Player found in possession of an altered bat and found in violation according to 11.02 of this Code shall be suspended for a five (5) year minimum.

(f) Team discovered to have within its possession or control of an altered bat may be suspended for a two ( 2 ) year minimum.
